Amazon Echo Conversations
Setting up an Amazon Echo to make calls or “drop in” on another device (a.k.a. “Amazon Echo Conversations”)?
Here’s a quick tip for setting up Amazon Echo Conversations: don’t use a tablet or computer; use a phone! The devices need telephony to communicate unless you are simply calling another Echo (to be honest, I’m not sure if you need telephony even for that if the Echo is outside of your house, i.e. out of your own network of Echos (or your Echolon, if you will)).
In trying to set up the Conversations, the instructions will refer you to a conversation bubble. This is the starting icon for the setup process. However this icon will only show up if the device is a telephone. I discovered this after wasting about one half of an hour on my tablet. Alas, the icon didn’t exist, making it vastly harder to find. (Not sure why Amazon doesn’t put in an explanation of this). (By the way, though I didn’t have this problem, with Android there is a version number which you must be equal to or above (I read 5.0 but did not research this). So this could be the problem if you are still not finding the icon on your phone).
Once you have the bubble, setup is a breeze. Echo will access your contacts and tell you who has an Echo and also store the names for voice-activated dialing. That’s it. If I can but save one-half of one hour of one other person’s life, my work here has been to great avail and I rejoice!
